A tapestry, "Verdure", tapestry weave, ca 312-318 x 302-307 cm, Aubusson around 1700-first half of the 18th century.

A large polychrome decor of a lush landscape with a bird, trees with a bird and flowers by a water course. In the background is a castle and mountains. A light brown border with flower baskets, flowers, acanthus and architectural ornaments. The outer border with a signature PI * AUBUSSON *. Wool and silk. Partly lined.

Some wear, slightly dirty, stains, damages, repairs, rewoven areas, holes. The sides and ends have damages and holes.

Provenance

Thureholm Castle, the Countess' writing room. From Thureholm Castle the tapestries come that were made at Beauvais in the early 18th century which are now in the oval room at the City Hall in Stockholm where weddings take place as well as the magnificent bed, the so-called Bielkesängen, which was purchased for the National Museum in 1914 for SEK 21,000.
