Under en vistelse i Bonneville Salt Flats i USA fick Karl Momen en vision om ett träd mitt i det övergivna landskapet. Detta blev inspirationen till skapandet av den första ”Metaphor: The Tree of Utah”, en 27 meter hög skulptur som år 1986 uppfördes i Great Salt Lake Desert och donerades av konstnären till staten Utah. Auktionens exemplar utförd i en mindre storlek skapades av Karl Momen samma år som uppförandet av trädet i Utah.
