Florian Maier-Aichen’s photographic images of landscapes convey a surrealist and painterly impression. Using sophisticated photographic techniques, he is not afraid of experimenting, merging digital technology with traditional photographic craftsmanship.
Maier-Aichen manipulates his images after they are taken, often adding red and blue. This gives the subject a futuristic tone – a kind of landscape photography for the twenty-first century.
Florian Maier-Aichen was born in Germany in 1973 and lives and works in Cologne and in Los Angeles. He has an international training, including time spent at Högskolan för Fotografi och Film at the Valand Academy in Gothenburg.
Maier-Aichen’s work is represented in several collections, including the Denver Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and the Saatchi Gallery in London.
