More information

In the beginning of 1924, Erik Olson and his cousin Waldemar Lorentzon arrived in Paris. They belonged to the first circle of students at the continent's most prominent art school, Fernand Légers Académie Moderne in Montparnasse.
The stay in Paris made a deep impression on Erik, and he started to experiment with simplified forms, neoplastic expressions and less colour. "Fiskare vid Seine", painted in 1928, is a play with so called “impossible figures”. Erik evokes a sense of depth through shifts in the different surface levels while maintaining a flat surface. The shapes and figures constantly change place which gives a sense of space and architectural surface at the same time. "Fiskare vid Seine" is a key work in Erik Olson's production and is recurring in the literature about the artist and is frequently exhibited.
The painting is part of the GAN connoisseur & cultural personality Jan-Torsten Ahlstrand's collection.
