A Japanese lacquered display cabinet, Shodona, 19th Century.

Lacquer display cabinet supported on a stand with four bracket feet. Assymetrically arranged, comprising sliding doors and a hinged cupboard, the fronts and doors embellished with a traditional continous landscape view with magnificent buildings and bridges. The inside of the door of the cupboard inlaid with a metallic crescent moon above cranes, the open staggered shelf areas, the top and sides of the cabinet all embellished with seasonal floral roundels on a mura-nashiji ground; the thinner borders composed of the hanabishi pattern inlaid in gold foil, applied throughout with metal fittings engraved with floral design. Height 108 cm. Lenght 86 cm. Depth 40 cm.
