More information

Einar Jolin traveled home from Paris during spring of 1914 to take part in the Baltic exhibition in Malmö with other artists from around the Baltic Sea. In Paris he had studied for Henri Matisse. Jolin planned to return to Paris after the exhibition, but he could not due to the outburst of World War I. He then decided to settle in Stockholm and managed to get hold of a studio of his own in the south of Stockholm city near Katarina church with a magnificent view over the city. In this studio many of his highly esteemed views over Stockholm were created and the painting included in this sale painted in 1915 is a great example. You can see Kornhamnstorg and the church at Riddarholmen depicted in a cool palette.
