More information

At the beginning of the 1920s, Esaias Thorén came in contact with Sven Jonson. Together, they created the group Den Unga ("The Young"), with Axel Olson as their teacher. Soon after, they exhibited their art together in 1924. The year following this, Thorén studied for painter Carl Wilhelmssons in Stockholm.
In the autumn of 1926, he traveled with Sven Jonson to Paris, where they studied for artist Otte Sköld. In the international metropolis, the two took on the new waves of art movements. However, they soon moved back to Halmstad in the spring 1927.
In this auction's "Kamin", Thorén has drawn a modern, stylized fireplace, with pure red and yellow, yet sharp black contours. New and modern technology that simplified life were often subjects in artworks at the time. The drawing "Kamin", an unusual artwork from 1926, is a great example of Esaias Thoréns significance for the development of modern art during the 1920s.
