"Palm Pals"
Signed Mr Doodle. Marker pen on paper 59 x 42 cm.
Sam Cox (b. 1994), better known by his alias Mr Doodle, was already obsessed with doodling through his childhood growing up in Kent, England. It was not only in sketchbooks and schoolbooks that he scribbled and sketched, but did his "doodles" on everything that came his way. The walls of his bedroom were completely covered by his "doodles". Even today, at the age of 26, his obsession to draw is intact. This love of "scribbling" became the origin of his own "DoodleLand", a visual world packed with figures, patterns and objects. Mr. Doodle's characteristic humorous creations, often described by himself as "Graffiti Spaghetti" have a direct and explosive energy which Sam Cox has to many different media, such as books, furniture, installations, etc.
Sam Cox has a dream of creating an entire amusement park covered by his "doodles", where visitors can be surrounded by his drawings. He has already performed several acclaimed projects, not least his much-talked-about 50-hour drawing marathon in London 2017. For Mr. Doodle, humor is a central part of his artistry and his direct contact with his followers on social media is a key part of his creation. He himself has said "A lot of art is lacking a sense of humour. It’s a fun thing to be able to draw and create your own world, and sometimes it is funny. I’m not afraid of people laughing at me or if they don’t get it."
