More information

Ramleh (“sand” in Arabic) was a holiday resort to the east of Alexandria in Egypt. Until the beginning of the 19th century it was a desert land, and yet several wealthy Alexandrine families gradually started building holiday homes there, thus transforming it into a little Riviera. Thegerström and his wife visited Ramleh during their honeymoon in 1887.
