A French Empire Claude Galle mantel clock, beginning of the 1800's.

Gilded bronze. White enamel dial marked "Le Roy Mr de Madame A PARIS" (Bazile-Charles fils, clockmaker to Napoléon I and his mother Maria Letizia "Laetitia" Ramolino (1750-1836). Her titel was "Madame Mère (de sa Majesté l'empereur)". Recamier lying on sofa and with symbols of learning and science. The design of the pendulum is probably after Jacques-Louis David's painting from the year 1800 depicting her. During the first thirty years of the 19th century, she held one of France's most famous literary salons. Length 37, width 16, height 52 cm. Pendulum included. Key included.

The laurel branch on the top with repair. Décor elements missing. Keys included.

More information
