Clara Lachmann, née Meyer was born in Copenhagen in 1864. She married Jacob Lachmann when she was 24 years of age. In 1901 they moved to the Charlottenlund etate, close to Ystad in southern Sweden. Jacob Lachmann had large interests in the sugar beet industry in Sweden and in the West Indies. Clara Lachmann was also a cello player and actively engaged in the musical life of Ystad. Clara Lachmann supported cross-border Scandinavian contacts, and initiated and funded a student meeting in Copenhagen in 1918. Source: The Clara Lachmann Foundation.
