A casket and lid, C14 dated, second half of the 17th century.

Wood. Richly carved decor. The front with band ornament and animal motifs in circles, including an elephant and a camel. The back with figure scenes. Sides and lid with geometric patterns. The inside of the lid with carved incomprehensible text of Scandinavian character. Length 43, width 26, height 22 cm. Key included.

The casket and lid probably an early match. Severe worming. Damages.

Bought in Wellington, New Zealand, in the late 1950's.

The lot comprises a document (2019-05-06) from Uppsala University, Ångström Laboratory, with the results of 14C dating of two samples. Sample A from the lid with age 358 +- 30 years. Sample B from the panel of the back age 331 +- 30 years.
