Folkform is Anna Holmquist and Chandra Ahlsell. They founded Folkform in 2005 after studying at Konstfack in Stockhom. Folkform have been rewarded with several design awards and are represented in several museum collections as the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and National Museum in Norway. Since the start they have had a clear focus and goal - to take advantage of and show off parts of our Swedish industrial heritage. Folkform not only designs the unique products but also takes a large part in the manufacturing process. Their work often revolves around how we create material hierarchies. Folkform has chosen to question preconceived notions about materials and how they are valued. The duo design object för larger production but also creates art objects in unique and limited editions with artisan methods. The objects are often made from industrial materials with low status, such as masonite, fake marbles and artificial leather in order to challenge our view of what is valuable. The raw and cubist Suburban Skyline lamps were inspired by the suburban architectural lines. The lamp has already been rewarded with several awards, and is well on its way to becoming a Swedish design classic. Suburban Skyline was given to HRH Queen Silvia from the Swedish Parlament on her 70th and 75th birthday, the luminaires are now represented at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Folkform has worked with the decoration of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, which was newly opened in 2018. The lamp in this auction is the first copy of Studio FOLKFORM's hand-crafted edition. The model is available as floor and ceiling lamp in production at Örsjö lighting.
