More information

Thure Öberg (1872-1935) was a Swedish ceramist working in Finland. He was born in Sweden and educated at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm. By his father Axel Öberg, a sculptor who worked as a ceramist at Rörstrand, he already had a versatile experience of ceramics on arrival in Finland. He became the factory's first artistic leader and was active there 1896-1935. He worked with porcelain and faience and, inspired by Danish ceramist Arnold Krogh, he made the underglazed ware to his specialty. His earliest works for Arabia has clear Art Nouveau references.

At the International Paris world exhibition in 1900, Thure Öberg received a gold medal for his blue-decorated dinner service with Finnish landscape motifs. His works are well represented at the Arabia Museum in Helsinki.
