A RUG, an antique Kerman Laver figural, ca 212,5 x 141,5 cm.

A polychrome landscape with a royal company with entourage, horses and lions. A wide main border with Persian historical scenes.
The motive is lions (the lion symbolizes Rostam/Rustam the legendary hero in Ferdousi's Shahnameh = the book of kings) and the sun (is the motherland), a crown (symbolizes the monarchy).
The picture on the rug probably tells us about a Persian royal family who looks at how good/bad the princes who want to marry their princesses cope with the challenges presented as conditions for the marriages.

Some wear, slightly dirty, stains. The sides have fold wear, one side has minor damages, one corner is slightly damaged.

Provenance

A pioneer among the Swedish female composers Carin Malmlöf-Forssling (1916-2005). She was also a pianist. Then inherited.
