"Rött Troll" is one of a series of lightbox paintings created by Ulf Rollof on linen cloth spread across a lightbox. Unlike traditional painting, the subject is turned away from the viewer. When the lightbox is switched off, only the raw linen cloth is visible. But when the lightbox is switched on, the painting becomes more powerful and the colours are forced through the cloth. As is so often the case in Rollof’s art work, relationships between two diametric opposites are a key component.
Moderna Museet’s collection includes one of Rollof’s lightbox paintings, which can be seen in his current retrospective exhibition “Urgent” at Moderna Museet in Malmö.
Ulf Rollof was born in 1961 and works in Stockholm.
Ulf Rollof is currently showing a retrospective at Moderna Museet in Malmö, "Urgent", 22 June 2017 - 14 January 2018.
