Provenance

Acquired by the Swedish Diplomat Per Falkenström (1928-2012), while he was stationed in Pakistan in the mid 1960’s.

The legends tells that siddharta after a long time of hardship in order to reach enlightment, sat down by the tree in 49 days, Thej he became an enlightened one, a Buddha. When the Buddha stood up at last, he gazed at the tree in gratitude, to thank it for having given him shelter. From then on, the tree was known as the Bodhi tree, the tree of Enlightenment.
