FABRIC ROLLS, 2 pieces, silk. Two uncut rolls of silk yardage. 777 x 71 and 702 x 72 cm. China late Qing dynasty.

The first with a cream coloured ground and a dense gold coloured flower decor as well as the manufactorers inscription: Jiangnan Weaving and manufacturing, No. 74. Jiangnan refers to Nanjing which is a known mark for textile pieces made for the Imperial use. The latter with a blue violet ground with polychrome Phoenix birds among clouds and peonies as well as the same inscription.

The collection of Director General Vilhelm Meyers. A prominent Danish businessman who lived and worked in China during the years 1902-1935. He ran and owned the Andersen & Meyer Ltd, a company which at the time had about 25 000 employees.
