Blue pigment on plaster. Height 69 cm. Numbered 195/300 at the back of the sculpture and with the artist's star in relief. Also stamped "Vénus Bleue de Yves Klein Exemplaire No 195/300 Editions Galerie Bonnier, Geneve Realisation Jean-Paul Ledeur - Paris", below base. Edited in 1982 by Galerie Bonnier, Geneva.

Yves Klein var en av frontfigurerna inom konströrelsen Nouveau réalisme. Hans "La Vénus d'Alexandrie (Vénus Bleue)" är ett av konstnärens mest omtyckta och välkända verk. Det kan närmast beskrivas som en appropriering av den grekiska skulpturen "Venus från Milo" som avbildar den grekisk gudinnan Afrodite och som i Rom benämndes Venus. Det var 1970 som Rotraut Klein-Moquay och Jan Runnqvist på Galerie Bonnier beslutade att fullfölja ett av Yves Kleins projekt och 1982 gjordes slutligen denna skulptur och presenterades för första gången i samband med öppningen av Chicago Art Fair samma år.
