Flavius Eutropius was a Roman historian who flourished in the latter half of the 4th century. He held the office of secretary (magister memoriae) at Constantinople, accompanied the Emperor Julian on his expedition against the Persians.

Procopius was a Greek historian of the first half of the sixth century, he held various important positions in Byzantium, secretary of Belisarius Prefect of Byzantium. His writings mark the transition between classical Greek literature and Byzantine Greek literature, and make history into a new vision.
