Decorated with enlaced cranes. Diameter 39 cm.
Crazing, interior discolouration, cracks.
The service was comissioned by the well known and prosperous Grill family. They derive from a Dutch noble family. They used the crane with a cricket in its beak as their coat of arms. The enlaced cranes on this punch bowl carries the thoughts to the alliance between the two members of the Grill family and it has been discussed that it might be comissioned by Claes and Anna Johanna Grill to comemorate their wedding in 1737, but there are also theories that it was comissioned for Adolph Ulrich and Anna Johanna IIIs wedding in 1778.
