More information

Peder Mönsted’s (1859-1941) artistic talent was early discovered and he trained at the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen. There he won recognition for his realistic landscape painting which he came to enrich and refine throughout his artistry. Even though his beloved Denmark was one of his favorite motifs Mönsted travelled through Europe and Northern Africa which gives him a very varied production. He painted all the different seasons and picturesque views with his characteristic style that combines the realistic academic style and en plein air. He quickly found a clientele amongst the nobility and the Russian Royal family was found amongst his most prestigious clients. In this motif Mönsted shows his excellent ability to depict the winter landscape in all its realistic glory.
