Provenance

Additions to the Guryev Service. The formal table service originally comprised a service for 50 people. It was comissioned by Count Guryev for Tsar Alexander I, and was intended for the Winter Palace were it was kept in the rooms of the Emperor’s wife, Elizabeth Alexeyevna.

The plates were bought by the present owners father in 1930 from Consul Lundberg, the Swedish Envoye in St Petersburg, who recieved them as a gift upon leaving Russia in the 1920's.
