Signed Karin Mamma Andersson and dated 1996 on verso. Canvas 84 x 62 cm.

More information

The young artists in Sweden where strongly questioning the traditional way of painting during the 1990-ties. The education at the art schools was changed fundamentally. The focus was on conceptual art, performance art, installations and photography. It was a strong antagonism against painting with oil on canvas. Therefore it required a strong belief in oneself to take up such a traditional method, especially for a young and emerging artist. Karin Mamma Andersson had that belief and did just that.
This painting was made during 1996 when Karin had been working as an artist for some years and was a mother of two children. Her pictures have a story-telling quality about them. The atmosphere is both serene and mystical. Scenes taken from an everyday life, memories and dreams are woven together and are creating a new and mysterious world.
