A pair of coral-ground famille rose bowls, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), one with seal mark in red.

Rounded sides, enamelled on the exterior with three evenly spaced yellow ground panels of shaded pink peony blooms, centered with stippled yellow stamens, borne on branched stems with small leaves, bordered with interlinked foliate scrollwork bearing at the corner of panels and between each of them smaller blooms in shades of blue, reserved on a deep red ground of russet tone. Diameter 11 cm.

Provenance

The Collection of Gustaf Wallenberg (1863-1939). The collection was acquired between 1906 and 1918 when Wallenberg was the Swedish Envoyé in Tokyo, from 1907 he was also accredited for Beijing. Thence by descent.

Exhibitions

A bowl of this design of Daoguang mark and period, from the collection of Simon Kwan, was exhibited in the exhibition 'Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Art Gallery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong 1983, cat no 51, another on in the collection of Hong Kong Museum of Art was included in the Museum´s exhibition 'The Wonders of the Potters Palette, Hong Kong 1984, catalogue no 104.
