A red lacquer screen and stand, Qing dynasty, 18th Century.

Of rectangular form, carved to the front in low relief with a lakeside landscape scene, depicting some immortals and their attendants, amid bridgeways, garden walkways and surrounded by lush vegetation growing from gnarled rocks by the peaceful rippling water. The reverse decorated in gilt with peonies.

Provenance

Bought at Bukowskis in 1936, at the sale of the Richard Hultmark Collection. Catalogue no 325, who aquired it from the Li Hung Chang Collection.
