Provenance

The service was ordered by Emperor Nicholas I in 1834 as a gift for Mahmud II, the Sultan of Turkey (1808-1839), to mark the signing of the Treaty of Unkiar Skelessi in 1833, which secured Russian acess to the Dardanelles.

Exhibitions

Part of this service is on display at the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul.
