Zenith's journey to develop the El Primero chronograph movement started in 1962, targeting 1965 as its centennial date. Although delayed by four years, the El Primero became the first automatic chronograph movement to fully integrate the chronograph complication in its construction, using a column wheel and rotor on ball bearings.
